Arri’s upcoming Hi-5 SX is a single-axis wireless hand unit for camera and lens control that offers flexible upgrade options. Said to be weatherproof and hard-wearing, it can control almost any lens on any camera.

It is more affordable than the three-axis Hi-5, with which it shares the same ergonomic design, and can easily be upgraded to full Hi-5 functionality via optional software licences.

Arri’s Hi-5 SX proves handy for camera control

Say Hi: Arri’s Hi-5 ecosystem with the Hi-5 SX, ZMU-4 and Hi-5

The large display is easy to read, and the touchscreen interface is based on a camera GUI. Arri offers swappable radio modules for the Hi-5 and Hi-5 SX, allowing crews to choose the most suitable module for any shooting location or to meet regional frequency regulations.

Compatible with existing Hi-5 licences, such as Cinefade, RED camera control and Focusbug, there are also two new software licences: the Hi-5 SX Plus License enables lens mapping, Custom Smart Ring creation, six additional user buttons, tail slate mode, and more; while the Hi-5 SX All-Axis License enables simultaneous use of the knob, slider and force-pad for three-axis lens control, as well as complete display information, AUX1 axis, and full virtual T-stop and focal length features. When both are installed the Hi-5 SX is functionally indistinguishable from the Hi-5.
