- Fox dropped from Roku amid carriage dispute
- Fans outraged ahead of Super Bowl this Sunday
- “Tell Roku you want Fox Sports,” the company tweeted
Fox channels have been removed by Roku, blocking customers from streaming the Super Bowl after a carriage dispute remained unresolved.
Roku’s contract with Fox expired today, 31 January and the duo were unable to reach a new agreement, resulting in Roku pulling Fox channels from its service.
In a message sent to customers Roku said: “On January 31, 2020, all standalone Fox channels will no longer be available on Roku streaming devices.
“You can still watch Fox channels through these services: FuboTV, Hulu + Live TV, SlingTV, YouTube TV and other live TV services, many of which offer free trials.
“We also have thousands of other great channels in the Roku Channel Store. We’ve got you covered!”
In a company blog post, Roku community manager Tanner D explained the company’s distribution contract with Fox Corp expired and it was forced to remove it from the Roku channel store and soon removed from the platform.
He said: Our discussions with Fox continue and we hope to reach an agreement soon. Let Fox Corp know you want Fox on your Roku device.”
In a tweet, Fox Sports said: “We want you to enjoy Fox Sports. Only @Roku can remove apps from your device. Tell Roku you want your Fox Sports!”

Roku did not specifically address the Super Bowl; however, fans were quick to shame the firm, taking to Twitter to share their outrage with the untimely decision ahead of the broadcast this Sunday.
The removal of Fox channels also limits Roku fans ability to enjoy the game in 4K.
Fox, which had previously advertised Roku on its website as one of the ways to stream the Super Bowl in HD and 4K, has removed all references to Roku, however, it continues to list Amazon’s Fire TV, Apple TV and Android TV as some of the many places its app is available.
Super Bowl fans with the Apple TV 4K and Amazon Fire TV 4K have the option to stream the game in 4K.
