XenData will introduce a trio of appliances at IBC2026 for archiving to LTO tape libraries, accessible simultaneously as a file system and as S3 object storage.
The appliances include a disk or SSD fast storage tier for write caching and intelligent pre-fetching to enhance performance.
The X20 V3 supports up to two LTO SAS library drives with a 20TB HDD fast storage tier. The X25-S V3 supports up to four LTO SAS drives with a 12TB SSD fast storage tier, while the X50 V3 supports up to eight LTO SAS or Fibre Channel library drives with either 64TB or 144TB of HDD RAID storage.
Files and S3 objects are effectively the same, with each file’s filename and path becoming the object’s key.
Dr Phil Storey, CEO of XenData, said: "With our new appliances, we are bridging the gap between file-based applications and on-premises object storage. They provide cost-effective long-term storage that is easily used in both file system and object storage workflows."
The appliances support LTO-10 and earlier libraries from HPE, IBM, Qualstar, Quantum, Spectra Logic and Symply, providing nearline storage that XenData said can scale to tens of petabytes.
