MFE-MediaForEurope, the TV group controlled by Italy’s Berlusconi family, has agreed to buy a 32.9% stake in Portuguese media company Impresa.
Milan-based MFE will pay about €17.3m for the stake from the Balsemao family.
Lisbon-based Impresa owns broadcaster SIC and the weekly newspaper Expresso.
The acquisition is part of MFE's strategy to build a European advertising-funded TV group that can compete with streaming giants such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.
MFE owns Mediaset Italia in Italy and Mediaset España in Spain. Earlier in 2025, the company secured more than 75% of German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1.
The Impresa deal means that MFE will now operate in six countries: Italy, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Portugal.
Pier Silvio Berlusconi, CEO of MFE, said: “With this operation, MFE is expanding its broadcasting and commercial reach to the entire Iberian Peninsula. Major advertising investors consider Spain and Portugal to be a single market, and thanks to this new partnership with Impresa and Mediaset España, we will further improve our positioning in the European market.”
Impresa said in a statement that the Balsemão family will remain the biggest shareholder in Impresa with a stake of 33.7% in the company.
