Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) Project Former Chair Peter MacAvock will join the advisory board of online audiovisual services directory Service List Registry (SLR).
MacAvock’s leadership of the DVB Project began when he became its Executive Director from 1994 to 2008. Following this, MacAvock moved to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to become its Head of Distribution for Platforms and Services for 15 years, between October 2008 and August 2024. Halfway through his time at the EBU, MacAvock also decided to take on the Chairman of the Steering Board position at the DVB Project for eight years from 2016 to 2024.
At the DVB, MacAvock oversaw the development of open standards that are used to deliver digital television services in Europe and around the world. More recently, he supported the industry-led development of the DVB-I specification for service discovery that SLR has stated is central to its operations.
MacAvock said: “Media providers around the world face the challenge of ensuring that their programmes are available and accessible on any screen. Broadcast standards have determined how scheduled channels are transmitted and received, but until now there has been no standard way to announce and discover such services online. DVB-I and platforms like the Service List Registry offer a solution to this based on open standards.”
SLR Founder and Chief Executive Dr William Cooper commented: “Peter has been involved in the development of open standards in this field for many years and has extensive industry knowledge. In joining our advisory board, Peter brings enormous credibility to our bold ambition to enable simple service selection on any screen.”
MacAvock joins other advisors to SLR, including Matthew Huntington, who is Secretary to the Steering Board of the DVB Project.
SLR recently joined the DVB Project consortium to develop and promote the adoption of DVB-I, its international solution to the problem of audiovisual media service discovery. Discover more here.
