Japanese cable manufacturer Canare’s stand has an ambulance on it – complete with flashing lights and siren – so that president and CEO Jun-ichiro Ohno and his team can attend to cable emergencies without delay.
Inside the SMPTE cable ambulance is everything a technician would need to fully repair optical hybrid camera cables on site within hours, saving a trip to the lab. General manager Tomasz Kolaczyk told the IBC Daily: “This is our new approach to keeping broadcasts going as intended: by building such labs into a car or van, which can then be present at the biggest sports or live TV events.”
Available for demonstration in the rear of the van is a range of the cables and connectors that the company produces and sells.
