The company has developed Advanced Punctuation, delivering highly accurate placement of full stops, commas, question marks, exclamation marks and enhancing capitalisation, transforming blocks of text into legible, comprehensible sentences.
Advanced Punctuation has been trained on over 2.5 billion words, using state-of-the-art neural networks.
Speechmatics’ VP products, Ian Firth, said: “For the longest time, the success of speech recognition has been measured by Word Error Rates, but transcription is about more than just accuracy. The importance of readability and understanding the intent behind speech has become an ever-increasing need for those in the media industry.
Firth said Advanced Punctuation is the first heavyweight, scaled-up punctuation model on the market, enabling Speechmatics’ customers – old and new – to derive greater meaning from transcripts and requiring less input from human users to make them usable.
“We recognise that there’s much more to making a useful transcription than the words on the page,” added Firth.
Speechmatics is exhibiting at IBC2019 on Stand 8.E17.
