Shinfield Studios, the largest new film and television studio development in the UK, is nearing completion of its final phase of construction.
The bulk of the soundstages - 13 - are now available, and 18 will be fully operational by early 2024. Over the past two years, as construction progressed and facilities became available, Shinfield Studios has hosted film and high-end-TV (HETV) productions from companies including Disney, Sony and the US streamers.
Based near Reading in Berkshire, Shinfield has two of the largest, fully climate-controlled soundstages available in the UK at 43,000 sq. ft. each. When complete, the studio will have 18 soundstages, 38 workshops, office space, and a 9-acre filming backlot.
Shinfield Studios is owned by US-based Shadowbox Studios which has a studio complex in Atlanta in the US and is developing a large-scale soundstage campus in the LA metro area. Shadowbox is owned and controlled by affiliates of Commonwealth Asset Management and Silver Lake.
Nick Smith, Joint Managing Director of Shinfield Studios, said: “Shinfield Studios now looks just like the plans we put to paper several years ago. Not only does it feel like a slice of Hollywood in Berkshire, it also offers producers everything that we promised. That’s to say a modern studio facility that has been carefully designed from the ground-up to meet all the needs of the most ambitious film and HETV productions. We really have considered every detail.”
