Following on from the launch in 2019 of Sony’s full-frame 6K sensor camera FX9, SmallRig has developed the VCT-14 Shoulder Plate to help operators adapt to different filming requirements.
Enabling rapid transitions between shoulder, tripod and hand-held shooting with comfortable shoulder pad, the VCT-14 is said to be highly adjustable and allows filmmakers to change the camera, lens or entire rig in seconds. The 80mm camera balance range of the slide plate keeps the balance of the heavy front by adjusting the sidling range, and the adjustable rod mount is set far back in the plate, offering a more accessory-capable area under the camera lens. Also, the rod raiser can be vertically adjusted by 23mm to fit different types of cameras.
The shoulder plate is compatible with Sony VCT-14 tripod adapter plates and features a Manfrotto 501 quick release plate. In addition, 1/4”-20 and Arri M6 threaded holes will give users additional mounting options.
SmallRig has also introduced the FX9 Half Cage for use with the same Sony camera. Designed to provide protection, accessory mounts and balance of the camera, the FX9 half cage is composed of a U-shape plate, rear insert plate and side bracket as a ready-to-shoot kit. While the U-shape plate and the side bracket meet the user’s mounting needs, the rear insert plate is able to support the rear of the camera body for greater balance. Filmmakers can select either the kit or individual accessories as required.
The half cage provides multiple 1/4”-20 & 3/8”-16 mounting screws, Arri locating hole and cold shoe mount, and is compatible with the original Sony trigger handle, cable clamp and sensor pin.
