Peacock, NBCUniversal’s US streaming service, has posted a profit for the first time, six years after it first launched.
In its second quarter results, parent company Comcast said Peacock’s earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation were $189m. The service posted a $432m loss in the first quarter of 2026.
It added that Peacock grew its paid subscribers by 4% to 48 million, compared to the previous quarter.
Comcast said Peacock’s results had been boosted by the FIFA World Cup, NBA playoffs, and reality dating show Love Island USA.
The milestone comes as Comcast prepares to spin off NBCUniversal entertainment and news media businesses into a separate company. This entity would house Peacock, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, Bravo, Universal film, television studios, and theme parks, and UK pay-TV service Sky.
The entertainment and content business will be led by Michael Cavanagh, while Comcast’s cable and connectivity business will be led by CEO Michael Angelakis.
Brian Roberts, Comcast Chairman and Co-CEO, said: "In just six years, we’ve built Peacock into a streaming business with real scale in the US. We’ve added 2 million paid subscribers in each of the last two quarters, had our biggest viewership month ever in June and reached profitability."
Comcast said its own revenue declined 1% to $29.9bn in the second quarter, compared to a year ago, citing the loss of broadband residential customers for the downturn.
Comcast NBCUniversal recently committed to invest over £5bn in its planned theme park in the UK during its expected five years of construction, with a further £1bn planned over its first 10 years. Discover more here.
