Broadcast Solutions has acquired Dutch camera support specialist Egripment (stand 12.F20) and its rental subsidiary Egripment Deutschland, while selling its hi human interface business to Riedel Communications (10.A31).
Thomas Riedel, Founder and CEO, Riedel Group, said: “It is not an acquisition for the sake of growth only, it is very strategic and logical.” The company has already added control-type features to its intercom systems, and this acquisition takes that further. hi will remain a stand-alone product but will be more tightly integrated with Riedel technology.
Riedel is particularly happy with how well the hi and Riedel teams have worked together. “I've done a number of acquisitions and sometimes you really feel a cultural shock when you bring those teams together; here it was like the guys respected and liked each other from the first moment.”
Egripment makes high-end camera support, including cranes, dollies and remote heads, including custom builds, which will continue under Broadcast Solutions, with Philippe Tresfon staying as Egripment MD. As part of the acquisition, Egripment Deutschland will manage Birds Camera Solutions, a Broadcast Solutions company specialising in advanced camera systems.
Maximilian Breder, MD and COO, Broadcast Solutions Group, said: “Egripment is a perfect fit for us: it brings unique manufacturing capabilities, world-class reputation, and a global rental offering that perfectly complements our existing services. Growing the rental business is particularly important to us, because it brings us into direct contact with the creative users of the technology, the directors and operators. That brings us really valuable knowledge and understanding, which will be reflected across all we do as a group.”
