The sixth season of Netflix’s The Crown leads the nominations for the 2024 Bafta Television and TV Craft Awards.

The final season of the royal drama has eight nominations, ahead of Black Mirror episode Demon 79, which has seven nominations. Happy Valley, Slow Horses and The Sixth Commandment each have six nominations, while The Last of Us, The Long Shadow and Succession secured five nods each.

Four actors in The Crown have received nominations, including Elizabeth Debicki, who played Princess Diana and Dominic West, who is nominated for his role as Prince Charles. Lesley Manville, who portrayed Princess Margaret, and Salim Daw, who played Mohamed Al-Fayed, are both nominated for supporting roles in the show.

However, The Crown missed out on a nomination for best drama series. The four nominees in that category are BBC One’s The Gold and Happy Valley, Apple TV+’s Slow Horses and Netflix’s Top Boy.

In factual series, Sky’s Dublin Narcos and Lockerbie, Channel 4’s Evacuation and BBC Two’s Once Upon A Time In Northern Ireland have been shortlisted.

Seventeen out of 44 nominees in the performance categories have received their first BAFTA Television Awards nomination, including Amit Shah (Happy Valley), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), David Tennant (Good Omens), Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown), Hannah Waddingham (Eurovision Song Contest 2023) and Harriet Walters (Succession).

Forty-seven competitive categories feature in the Bafta Television Awards and Bafta Television Craft Awards.

The Television Craft Awards will take place on Sunday 28 April. The Television Awards with P&O Cruises will take place on Sunday 12 May.

Jane Millichip, CEO of Bafta, said: “It is a real privilege to announce today’s nominations which recognise the most gripping, entertaining, challenging, funniest, most informative, highest quality, and most impactful TV programmes of 2023, as voted for by BAFTA members. More than 100 programmes across 12 broadcasters and streamers represent an extraordinary range of content.”
