Following its installation at the National Image Archive of China News in Beijing, film scanning specialist Digital Film Technology (DFT) will be bringing its DFT Polar HQ 8K film scanner to Amsterdam.
The Polar HQ 8K is the first film scanner featuring a native 8K image sensor at the Central News Film Group and formed part of the National Valuable Image Archive Project, a national initiative launched in 2022 focusing on 4K digital restoration and preservation of high-profile film works. Boasting ultra-high resolution and accurate colour reproduction capability, the DFT Polar HQ 8K scanner can convert film images to multi-specification digital format without loss, claims DFT.
The German company says its application in Beijing has enabled the Central News Film Group to serve as a model for the application of 8K digitisation across the industry.
At IBC, DFT will be showcasing the Polar HQ film scanner along with its newly developed Archive Package, designed for film archives dealing with critically damaged or fragile film materials that are challenging, or even impossible, to be scanned using conventional systems.
