IBC2018: Smart connectivity, 5G and media innovation will feature at the IBC Show with a focus on the convergence between the telco and media industries.
In a bid to break down the telco and media silos, IBC2018 will showcase a new conference track, C-level Forum and industry partnership, all of which highlight the ways in which emerging technologies are changing media
The Telco and Media Innovation Forum is an invite-only C-level programme with keynote speakers including BT Sport Director of Mobile Strategy Matt Stagg and Atrium TV Co-Founder and Chief Executive Jeremy Fox who will discuss how content is changing and the benefit of working with telcos.
“It’s important that events like this break down the silos of technologies and industries” - Matt Stagg, BT Sport
Stagg said: “Joining the biggest businesses in the telecoms and media spaces provides me with an opportunity to meet the most influential voices in each field – as a broadcaster looking at the role of mobile and our future, that’s vital.
“It’s important that events like this break down the silos of technologies and industries – this programme reflects the reality of broadcasting today.”
Joining the Forum is Movistar Director of Original Programming Domingo Corral Lopez who will offer insight into ways to develop original content whilst examining the collaboration between telecom players and content providers.
The Forum will explore digital transformation, OTT content and current challenges around the evolution and intertwining of the telecoms sector with the wider media industry.
Crimp said: ”We promise our hosted delegates a high-level networking event with world class content. I am sure this will be a valuable day for all our guests. I am looking forward to being part of this new initiative.”
5G: Challenges and opportunities
Exploring the impact technology will have on broadcasting and beyond, the Smart Connectivity and Multiplay Devices track is new to the IBC conference for 2018 with a focus on 5G challenges, opportunities and the ways to overcome disruption pitfalls.

IBC has formed a collaboration with the TM Forum to drive innovation between the media and telecoms industries. The TM Forum is a non-profit industry association for service providers and their suppliers in the telecommunications sector to increase cooperation and collaboration between their respective industries.
The venture will encourage senior executives from both sectors to partner, helping broadcasters, operators and software vendors to work together across the media and telecoms sectors.
