Video review and collaboration specialist Frame.io has launched Frame.io v3.6 and a new application, Frame.io Transfer, now available in beta.
Frame.io v3.6 offers new features for remote working, with a particular focus on speed and security. The expanded toolset addresses demands for faster project downloads with the Frame.io Transfer app, adds enhanced and powerful security features such as Watermark ID for Enterprise accounts, and improves the overall collaborative experience with such features as iOS Offline Mode and Folder Sharing.
“We’re facing a world where these updates are not just nice to have, they’re necessary components to keeping our customers’ businesses and livelihoods pushing forward,” said Emery Wells, Frame.io’s co-founder and CEO. “Frame.io Transfer, combined with even stronger security, smarter notifications, iOS Offline Mode and more, equips users with a powerful toolset that we hope will make their lives easier.”
Frame.io Transfer is a new file transfer app for Mac and Windows. It lets users download large files and sophisticated folder structures, including entire projects, with one click. It supports EDL and XML formats, so users can identify specific files, accelerating the process of relinking to original camera files for final conforms, colour grading, or sharing assets for visual effects. Transfer also makes it possible to monitor active downloads and to drag and drop to reprioritise their order. It also promises to facilitate fast, secure downloads, regardless of unstable internet connections; if there’s a disruption mid-download, Transfer pauses and automatically resumes once reconnected.
“Transfer was originally slated for release later this year, but as a response to the profound shift in the way we’re working and the tools our customers need immediately, we’re releasing it in beta today,” said Wells.
The move to remote working has also brought changes to Frame.io v3.6, including addressing the need to ensure that high-value content is shared securely. Enterprise customers can now secure presentation and review links using login-only access, which means that only specified recipients can view Share Links. Recipients will see a list of everything that’s been shared with them in Frame.io’s new Inbox, which is said to offer a clean and focused view that’s especially useful for busy clients or executives.
Also new is Watermark ID, which provides customers with visible security. When any viewer presses Play, Frame.io completes a real time, on-demand transcode of the video with their personal identifying information burned into every frame. A two-hour video starts playing back in less than two seconds, providing peace of mind when sending work out for review.
Users can also now add folders to Review Links, allowing them to easily organise and share assets across teams or projects. Any changes made to folders after they are shared are dynamically updated in the Review Link. This is especially useful for teams who produce episodic content or programming that relies on a library of media. Frame.io has also made it faster, easier and more intuitive to organise assets with an improved Move-to and Copy-to flow.
Frame.io v3.6 also consolidates notifications made on the same video within short periods of time, grouping them together into one notification. Users can filter by Read or Unread, see comment previews and scrub asset thumbnails to easily spot what needs to be reviewed or addressed.
Offline Mode for Frame.io’s iOS apps empowers users to work from anywhere. Simply tap a file to make it available offline, then review and leave comments - as soon as the app comes back online, comments are automatically synced to the project.
