IBC is hosting a virtual ‘Kickstart’ event for its collaborative media innovation programme, where challenges will be pitched and project groups will begin to be formed.

Accelerators: Kickstart event to be hosted virtually

IBC’s Accelerator Media Innovation Programme is a fast-track, collaborative, open approach to R&D that solves common business and technology challenges across the content supply chain. 

With the call for submissions now closed, the Kickstart event will provide the industry with the chance to find out more about this year’s challenges and the problems they are looking to address.

IBC Accelerators: Virtual Kickstart Event 2021

Taking place next week (23-24 March), the Kickstart Event is an online event to learn more about the Accelerator programme, listen to pitches and potentially join a challenge.

The event, which will take place online, will bring together Champions and Participants from across the media eco-system to create project teams. Last year’s event, which took place at Television Centre in London, was attended by more than 80 executives from across the sector.

IBC’s Kickstart 2021 will bring together industry leaders and innovators to explore the impact of the global coronavirus pandemic and the key themes that will help drive the rebuild and recovery of the industry. The quickfire pitches are:

Round 1: Tuesday 15.15-16:15 (GMT)

  • 5G & Innovation in Live Production, BBC

  • More Sustainable Live Productions, Singular.live
  • AI bias detection, Al Jazeera
  • Immersive Audio & Sound Imagery, CTOiC

Round 2: Wednesday 14.30-15.30 (GMT)

  • AI Assisted Editing, Limecraft
  • 4D Content Open Standards Development for AR/VR/MR, Digital Air Technologies
  • 5G Remote Production, Al Jazeera
  • Animated Avatar Live Stream, Noitom International & RKG Creative
  • Virtual Sets using studio video walls, RTE

More than 60 organisations participated in the Accelerator programme in 2020 as Champions and Participants in eight projects, including AP, Al Jazeera, BBC, BT Sport, EBU, ITV, MovieLabs, Olympic Broadcasting Services, Reuters, RTÉ, Sky, SVT, TV2, ViacomCBS, Yle and many others. Projects addressed challenges in areas such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, CG Animation and VFX workflows and IP transition.

IBC created the Accelerator programme in 2019, to support the media & entertainment industry with a framework for agile, collaborative and fast-track innovation through a multi-company project-based approach to solving complex media and entertainment business and technology challenges.
