Papal drama Conclave has emerged as the front runner for the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards with 12 nominations, including best actor for Ralph Fiennes.
Mexico-set musical Emilia Perez is just behind with 11 nominations, followed by architect drama The Brutalist with nine.
A total of 42 films have been nominated for the BAFTAs which take place on 16 February.
Based on the bestselling novel by Robert Harris, Conclave’s nominations also include best film, best director for Edward Berger and best supporting actress for Isabella Rossellini.
Emilia Perez, which tells the story of a Mexican cartel boss who undergoes gender affirmation surgery, has best actress nominations for Karla Sofía Gascón and for co-stars Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez in the supporting actress category.
The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody as a Hungarian architect attempting to build a life in the US after the Second World War, has nine nominations - including best film and best actor, and supporting nods for co-stars Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones.
Elsewhere there are seven nominations each for Wicked, Anora and Dune: Part Two, six for A Complete Unknown and Kneecap, and five for Nosferatu and The Substance.
The Apprentice, Blitz, Gladiator II, Sing Sing, Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl and The Wild Robot have three nominations each.
The best film category is comprised of Conclave, Emilia Perez, sex worker drama Anora, The Brutalist and Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown.
In the best director category, Conclave's Edward Berger is in the running alongside Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, Denis Villeneuve for Dune: Part Two, Jacques Audiard for Emilia Perez, Coralie Fargeat for The Substance and Sean Baker for Anora.
Among distributors, Universal Pictures leads the pack with a total of 32 nominations for films including Wicked, Anora, The Brutalist and Wild Robot. Netflix follows with 16 nominations for films including Emilia Perez and Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl.
