Ambient has released what it calls it “best and most lightweight boom pole yet”, the QuickPole Series 5.
It is not only built with the fifth generation of Ambient’s boom pole tubes, but is also a five-section boom, which has been built following customer feedback “to satisfy even the pickiest audio pros”.
The QuickPole S5 is ultra-lightweight, “made from extremely durable material” and is “the most advanced carbon fibre boom pole we’ve ever developed”.
The new tubes use a custom-made carbon fibre compound with added ultra-high-modulus fibre layering. This means the new booms are as sturdy as Ambient’s QP four-segment series but still as lightweight as its QXS five-segment models – indeed, it replaces both previous ranges. The new construction also allows a longer reach, with the new QP5150 model, which extends to more than 6m.
As users often have to work quickly, the new QuickPole uses Teflon sheet plus silicone-lubricated felts that should make for silky-smooth extending and collapsing of the boom. It also has re-engineered locks that give users a better grip thanks to more refined knurling and slightly extended length. It has also tuned the threading further; so that the locks open and close securely, but quickly, with just a quarter turn.
The booms also feature a new anti-twist mechanism in the pole-sections, where the retention pin has been replaced with a serration. It means the lock pieces automatically fall into place when users disassemble and reassemble the pole for cleaning or maintenance.
The newly designed tip and optional bottom end allow for easy, solder-free cable retrofit. Simply take off the tip, insert the pre-configured internal cabling and plug it into the butt-end.
Ambient offers both internal coiled XLR cables for shorter lengths and straight cables for extended lengths. The new bottom end is also available as an accessory for both straight and right-angle cable configuration. Its new bottom can also fit its older QuickPole boom poles.
The Series 5 poles come in six different lengths, with collapsed lengths from 55cm to 155cm and extended lengths ranging from 185cm up to almost 640cm. The booms weigh from 450g to 1080g.
