Shogun leads Emmy award winners

FX’s Japanese historical drama Shogun won the prestigious best drama trophy at Sunday’s Emmy Awards, with other big wins for FX’s The Bear, HBO/Max’s Hacks and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer.

Shogun is the first non-English language show to be named best drama, and also set a record for the most single-season Emmy wins - taking home four prizes on the night to make it 18 in total, following previous trophies at the creative arts Emmys earlier this month.

Shogun also won acting awards for Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, the first Japanese actors to win their categories.

Hit British series Baby Reindeer was named best limited series, while Richard Gadd collected awards for writing and starring in the Netflix show category and co-star Jessica Gunning was named best supporting actress.

The Bear won four awards in the comedy categories, including wins for stars Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colon-Zayas, but Hacks took the overall win for best comedy series.

Elsewhere Elizabeth Debicki also won her first Emmy for her portrayal of Diana, Princess of Wales, in Netflix’s royal drama The Crown.
