The compact EOS C80 is the latest addition to Canon’s range of RF mount cinema cameras and includes the new backside-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor unveiled in the recently introduced EOS C400.
This captures full-frame 6K images with 16 stops of dynamic range and minimalnoise, with a triple base ISO of 800 / 3200 / 12,800 for optimal image quality. Intelligent auto-switching seamlessly transitions between these base ISO levels to keep pace with dynamic scenes, such as news or sports.
The EOS C80 also sports Dual Pixel CMOS AF II technology, with advanced autofocus, including new body and animal tracking. It records in 12-bit Cinema RawLight, up to 6K 30p, as well as new MP4 video formats such as XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S (allowing oversampled 4K 4:2:2 10-bit image quality with manageable filesizes).
The compact form factor, familiar from the EOS C70, makes it easy to rig for gimbals and drones or for handheld use, where a redesigned, removeable top handle improves comfort. It also has a brighter LCD for use outdoors, plus improved joystick design.
It can use Canon’s PL-to-RF mount adapter, which includes support for Cooke /iTechnology metadata for improved workflow efficiency and creative control for VFX and virtual production.
