The recently released Atomos Neon Cinema Series can now be upgraded to 8K with the new 8K Master Control Unit.
This allows for recording and monitoring 8K video at up to 60fps. Both Apple ProRes and ProRes Raw are supported straight from the camera sensor.
The Neon displays were designed with a MCU that can be easily swapped out to take advantage of new recording technologies. Users just need to unclip the current unit and clip in the new one. The device doesn’t upgrade the screen, which will be 4K max (or HD on the 17in display), just the recording.
Jeromy Young, CEO, Atomos, said: “We are blown away by the 8K ProRes Raw video recorded with the new Neon Cinema Series monitor/recorder. The detail is incredible, with enough resolution to reframe for 4K and 6K and even enable virtual multi-camera angles from one shot. And the Raw camera sensor data available makes ProRes Raw the ideal format for HDR workflows.”
ProRes Raw combines the flexibility of Raw video with the performance of ProRes, and Atomos says it aims to build on it with further enhancements to its products.
Atomos is exhibiting at IBC2019 on Stand 11.D25.
