- Dalet to buy Ooyala’s Flex Media Platform OTT workflow business
- Deal will provide Dalet with SaaS revenue and new market opportunities
- Follows Brightcove’s April acquisition of Ooyala’s platform business
Dalet is to acquire the Ooyala Flex Media Platform business as it looks to bolster its SaaS-based services offering and sign up customers in new sectors.
The Flex Media Platform is primarily sold as a subscription offering for servicing OTT and digital media distribution workflows. It uses open APIs to orchestrate video workflows, manages assets and metadata across multiple systems, and analyses bottlenecks within the content supply chain.
Dalet said the deal will help it to acquire customers beyond its traditional base in news and production workflows with opportunities for new customers such as corporate brands, telcos, leagues and sports teams that want to manage their media assets.
Ooyala’s customers include Audi, Sky Sports, Fox Sports Australia, HBO Asia, Turner Asia, TV2, Zomin.TV, The Picture Production Company, and Smoke and Mirrors.
The deal includes Ooyala personnel across sales, marketing, engineering, professional services, and support.
Dalet chief executive David Lasry said: “Dalet’s proven products and services will enable Ooyala customers to augment and expand their Ooyala Flex Media Platform. We have a technology path forward supported by expanded, world-class professional services and customer success teams that can provide the know-how and expert guidance on scaling media operations to optimize the value of their Ooyala investment.”
In April, Brightcove bought Ooyala’s video platform business some four months after the Ooyala management had bought the company back from Australian telco Telstra, which had acquired it in 2014.
