26 January 1926 The first working television system was demonstrated by Scottish engineer and inventor, John Logie Baird. Baird was one of the inventors of the mechanical television and was ranked number 44 in the BBC’s list of the 100 Greatest Britons following a UK-wide vote in 2002.
